This past month has been a bit of a blur... which seems to be the case when there's a newborn in the house! We've been blessed with lots of help from visitors and I've been extra lucky to have TONS of help from Brett. Last week was his "finals week" for the quarter....which for the first time in his college career consisted of ZERO exams! YAY for him! And, this week is Brett's Spring Break, so we've seen a lot of him lately and I couldn't be happier with the timing! We are adjusting to being a family of 4....it's tricky at times, but so far so good!
Jet is growing like a weed already! This pic was taken Sunday....we made it to church for all 3 hours! Look at him, so handsome, in his "first tie!" Who cares if it's sewn on, right?! Oh, and he's totally rockin' that double chin like a champ...

Stats at Jet's 1 month check up:
Weight: 11 lb. 14 oz. (86%)
Height: 21.75 inches (47 %)
Head Circumference: 15 inches (41%)
His face is pretty much saying how I feel every time the doctor makes me get on that blasted scale for prenatal weight checks, "I'll just turn my head and cringe, don't tell me what it says!!"

Some of the things Jet likes to do thus far in life:

Look cute in his monster towel....

Snuggle up in soft fuzzy blankets for photo ops (ok, maybe that's mom's favorite thing to do)

Sport shirts with clever (but true) sayings :)

A few other things for journaling purposes:
- grew out of Newborn diapers by 2 weeks
- gives me smiles when I tickle his cheek while he eats
- had his first cold at 3 weeks :(
- took a bottle at 3 weeks. Did great...some freedom for momma!
- laughs in his sleep at least once every day!
- doesn't really loved to be swaddled anymore (unless I do it when he's already alseep). Stinker.
- eats every 3 hours during the daytime, and is now doing (usually) one 4 hour stretch in the night.
- I am very happy with the way Emri has adjusted to having a baby Jet around. Each day she seems a little more in to him...and now asks to hold him each day! When we put Jet on Emri's lap she says "he's big" or "he's hebby" (heavy) or "stong" (strong)---I don't know if she's referring to herself or the baby on the last one!
- We are working on "Baby Wise" to get the sleep thing down. I didn't do it with E till she was like 9 weeks, but I sure loved it when she started sleeping through the night, so hopefully it will work with him a little earlier!

Speaking of sleep....I was just thinking the other night---around 3am during a feeding---how many hours of LOST sleep new moms go through (or mine anyway, up to this one month milestone). This is what I came up with:
***1 full night of sleep (8hrs) lost the night of Jet's birth since he decided at 11 pm to get things goin'.
***2-3 hours each night depending on efficiency of feeding and how long baby is up after he eats (multiplied by days= 90 hrs)
***1-2 hours per day depending on if I stay up between his late evening feedings. YES, you would think that I would go to bed early, but my messed up brain would rather stay up late and wait for the next feeding time around 11pm, than go to sleep early only to have it interrupted by a cry for food...(= around 40 hours),
THIS ADDS UP TO 138 HOURS OF LOST SLEEP IN JUST ONE MONTH (give or take a few)!!
And Brett wonders why my patience is next to nothing :) haha!
If I were getting paid (monetarily) at my old job for this work that would be a nice paycheck well over $4,000!! Wow. I'm not sure why I did the math at 3 am to figure this out! I hate math to begin with! It's obvious my brain is out of whack from lack of sleep! haha! So for all you mom's out there kudos to you....you've definitely earned those black circles under your eyes! ha! (Why couldn't it earn me a suntan or something I wanted?!)
I do have to say though, the time spent nurturing these little gems is priceless when it comes right down to it! I wouldn't trade my job as "Mom" for anything!
