Jet @ 1 Month

This past month has been a bit of a blur... which seems to be the case when there's a newborn in the house! We've been blessed with lots of help from visitors and I've been extra lucky to have TONS of help from Brett. Last week was his "finals week" for the quarter....which for the first time in his college career consisted of ZERO exams! YAY for him! And, this week is Brett's Spring Break, so we've seen a lot of him lately and I couldn't be happier with the timing! We are adjusting to being a family of 4....it's tricky at times, but so far so good!

Jet is growing like a weed already! This pic was taken Sunday....we made it to church for all 3 hours! Look at him, so handsome, in his "first tie!" Who cares if it's sewn on, right?! Oh, and he's totally rockin' that double chin like a champ...

Stats at Jet's 1 month check up:
Weight: 11 lb. 14 oz. (86%)
Height: 21.75 inches (47 %)
Head Circumference: 15 inches (41%)

His face is pretty much saying how I feel every time the doctor makes me get on that blasted scale for prenatal weight checks, "I'll just turn my head and cringe, don't tell me what it says!!"
Some of the things Jet likes to do thus far in life:
hang with daddy and "watch" March Madness basketball...
Take warm baths...
Doesn't this pic look pretty darn close to Emri's picture HERE?!
Look cute in his monster towel....
Snuggle up in soft fuzzy blankets for photo ops (ok, maybe that's mom's favorite thing to do)

Sport shirts with clever (but true) sayings :)
A few other things for journaling purposes:
  • grew out of Newborn diapers by 2 weeks
  • gives me smiles when I tickle his cheek while he eats
  • had his first cold at 3 weeks :(
  • took a bottle at 3 weeks. Did great...some freedom for momma!
  • laughs in his sleep at least once every day!
  • doesn't really loved to be swaddled anymore (unless I do it when he's already alseep). Stinker.
  • eats every 3 hours during the daytime, and is now doing (usually) one 4 hour stretch in the night.
  • I am very happy with the way Emri has adjusted to having a baby Jet around. Each day she seems a little more in to him...and now asks to hold him each day! When we put Jet on Emri's lap she says "he's big" or "he's hebby" (heavy) or "stong" (strong)---I don't know if she's referring to herself or the baby on the last one!
  • We are working on "Baby Wise" to get the sleep thing down. I didn't do it with E till she was like 9 weeks, but I sure loved it when she started sleeping through the night, so hopefully it will work with him a little earlier!
*******************
Speaking of sleep....I was just thinking the other night---around 3am during a feeding---how many hours of LOST sleep new moms go through (or mine anyway, up to this one month milestone). This is what I came up with:
***1 full night of sleep (8hrs) lost the night of Jet's birth since he decided at 11 pm to get things goin'.
***2-3 hours each night depending on efficiency of feeding and how long baby is up after he eats (multiplied by days= 90 hrs)
***1-2 hours per day depending on if I stay up between his late evening feedings. YES, you would think that I would go to bed early, but my messed up brain would rather stay up late and wait for the next feeding time around 11pm, than go to sleep early only to have it interrupted by a cry for food...(= around 40 hours),

THIS ADDS UP TO 138 HOURS OF LOST SLEEP IN JUST ONE MONTH (give or take a few)!!

And Brett wonders why my patience is next to nothing :) haha!

If I were getting paid (monetarily) at my old job for this work that would be a nice paycheck well over $4,000!! Wow. I'm not sure why I did the math at 3 am to figure this out! I hate math to begin with! It's obvious my brain is out of whack from lack of sleep! haha! So for all you mom's out there kudos to you....you've definitely earned those black circles under your eyes! ha! (Why couldn't it earn me a suntan or something I wanted?!)

I do have to say though, the time spent nurturing these little gems is priceless when it comes right down to it! I wouldn't trade my job as "Mom" for anything!

Greenie Day

Thanks to Megan's LOVE for her favorite holiday, I too have found myself looking forward to it several years in a row now! The festivities this year started over a week in advance with a "girls night in"....and GREEN GLITTER TOES! So cute!
Then I had to take E over to Meg's for some glitter toes of her own....she kept asking to see my "pahkly" (sparkley) toes everyday, so she was very excited for some "pahkles" of her own!
We had the annual "Greenie Day Dinner".... this year it consisted of chicken caesar salad in green spinach wraps (like last year), green jello jigglers, watercrest salad (mormon pistachio salad), a special frozen green drink and Meg's traditional Greenie Day Cake, that she only makes once a year. SO YUMMY!

The Hagberg's even drove all the way up from Cincinnati just to join in on the festivities! Kara was so excited to pour us her special frozen drink....
The hosts: Brett, Miles & Meg
Hagbergs: Kara, Landon & Bex
Our fam
Thanks Meg for another fun greenie day celebration! This is definitely a "family tradition" we'll do next year....even though we won't be with this group of friends :( Boooooo.

Suckin' Out "Biggers"

This little buddy has really been worth the $20 it cost.....it's a battery operated booger (or "bigger" according to E) sucker! Ok...nasal aspirator for those not cool with talk of boogs!
Emri caught a cold...big surprise....and seriously I was wiping her nose like every 2 minutes, sometimes more. NOT EXAGGERATING! She then passed the junk onto baby brother. :( This sucker works like a charm! I'd recommend it to any mom! It's made by GRACO, found it at Wally World. Thankfully we are pretty much past the worst of the congestion.

Emri didn't get sick for the first time till she was about 10 months...I was so cautious about taking her anywhere that someone might be sick. So, I guess this is what happens when your children number more than 1, the toddlers pass every germ they have right on to the babies??

Gma & Gpa Anderton Visit

We had such a great time with Brett's parents here visiting. The weather was crappy so we spent all our time indoors....good thing Gma and Gpa came prepared! They spoiled Emri with birthday presents. I swear, Emri's birthday has been dragged out for almost a month! She is loving it though! Especially every time we stop to get the mail and there's packages waiting for her and Jet pretty much EVERYDAY still (thank you everyone for remembering us)!

So, her birthday from them seemed to have a "Tinka-bail" theme...here's gpa, helping her get her dress up Tinkerbell costume on!
And, here's our little fairy, dressed as Tinkerbell. Holding Tinkerbell. Watching a Tinkerbell movie! Cute. Period.
Of course Jet was there too...practicing tummy time.
and being held non-stop by just one of his many admirers :)
Emri and Gma mixing some brownies...Emri loves helping in the kitchen lately
And of course enjoying the fruits of her labor...yeah, don't worry we just gave her a knife and let her eat from the pan! haha!
oh, and she generously shared the chocolatey goodness with grandpa!
Grandma lovin on Jet. He's just so snuggly and cute, how could anyone resist?!
Are we really a family of FOUR?!
Our blondie!
It was so nice to have more visitors and we LOVED the extra help and entertainment for E :) Now we're definitely back to real life.... and realizing how spoiled we were by grandparents! We're all a little sleep deprived, which I guess is normal with a new babe. He likes to think play time starts around 11:30 pm! Thanks gma and gpa for everything!

Little Guy

Jet had his newborn check-up appointment at 5 days old. He was 8 lb. 3 oz....already an ounce over his birthweight! He's obviously eating well! The day before this, we were at the dr for E's 2 yr ck, and our pediatrician took a quick look at Jet for me. I thought he was looking jaundice, and so did the doctor, so he had us go to a lab for a blood draw to ck his bilirubin levels. They were 16 (20+ needs lights). I was told to make sure he ate every 2.5-3 hrs to help the yellow go away... and that was hard at night because he was not even close to wanting to wake up at 3 hours! Apparently jaundice makes them a little more sleepy.
Here's the 2 kiddos with Dr. Reis. We've really liked him and will be sad to have to find a new pediatrician when we move. Brett just pointed out to me the sign hanging on the wall behind him... "Office Policy: No Cell Phones, No Photo, No Video." haha! I take pics everytime I go to the office! And the doctor didn't seem to mind.... :)
This is what Jet thought about his first bath.....(i promise we didn't pose him)....he likes them now!
We were so lucky to have Momma Max stay for 11 days. She took good care of us, gave Emri tons of attention (Emri totally wore her out everyday), snuggled baby Jet lots, cooked, took Emri on a special shoppping spree, and let mommy sleep in everyday!
It was hard to let her go....please come back! Emri is bored and mommy is tired!

This pic cracks me up! He seems to always looked ticked off! As you can see his cheeks and chin are already filling in nicely, and I still can't get enough of that blonde hair! I can't believe he's alreay 2 weeks! Time's flying!
Brett's parents are visiting now and helping out a ton as well! It's so fun to have visitors and extra help!! Thanks to them I got to take a 2 1/2 hour nap yesterday! Wow, that was refreshing!

Until I have time to post again..... please enjoy THESE photos of the little munchkin, taken by none other than the fabulous KARA! :)
